Written by: Nancy Smith

It is the most difficult thing in the world when individuals feel that they do not have anyone to talk to. They keep all their feelings bottled up inside themselves just waiting to explode. This either results in mental health issues including self-harm or even worse suicide attempts.  Did you know that according to the recovery village (2020) approximately 17% of all people will self-harm during their lifetime?  The average age of the first incident of self-harm is 45% of people use cutting as their method of self-injury.  About 50% of people seek help for their self-harm but only from friends, instead of professionals.  Self-harm is not considered as a mental health condition but usually results in individuals damaging their body by cutting, burning, scratching, or practicing any other behavior that results in pain or injury. It is a way of releasing all the hurt that the individual is feeling inside themselves. They want it to manifest through physical pain opposed to emotional pain that they might be feeling.  Different motivators can encourage people toward self-harm, such as feeling overwhelmed or numb.

Many individuals do not wish to share their feelings with just anyone and may not be able to seek medical advice.  They should identify a close family or friend that they feel is close to that will listen and advice correctly.  If it is beyond their capacity, then the close individual must seek medical assistance. Sometime when you feel all alone and vulnerable, even finding that one person you can trust, can appear to be very difficult.  Some people are very lucky and have a few close friends that can help and advice, thus they should be recognised.

It is possible for look deep within yourself for answers, there is one person that knows you better than anyone else and that can give you the best advice, and be there for you through your ups and downs, that person is yourself. Aim to be your own best friend.  Everyone is busy in their own lives; everyone has many challenges that they face daily, and they must overcome their fears in the pursuit to eternal happiness. Ultimately everyone has a desire to be happy. It doesn’t matter how much you know about the subject of finding happiness, and the correct way to live, or try to abide by ethics and proper behaviour; until those teachings and that knowledge is implemented nothing will make a difference in your life.  It is always important to understanding the situation through the mind and feeling without getting emotional, understanding is a key component of self-realization.

I want to share three pieces of advice endeavours to help you to fight this internal battle that you may face every day with yourself:

  1. Always think positively

In life no matter what challenges you encounter never ever think that you are worthless and that you are no good.  Trust that the higher good, the world and the universe are all working in your favour. Thinking positively sends out positive vibrations out into the world and that is what you attract.  When you think something, it will be sure to manifest whether is positive or negative.  Therefore, practice positive affirmations that you believe every single day without fail, and you will see positive changes in your life.

  1. Believe and trust in yourself

When you trust yourself, it will automatically manifest into trusting others.  But that can occur when you possess self-belief.  You must instil within yourself self-belief that motivates you to accomplish anything.  You have the power within you to be the best at everything that you put your mind to.  It is important to realise that every person on this earth is individual and has their own purpose, we are all pieces of a jigsaw on earth.  Therefore, it is essential that you never compare yourself to another individual.  We are all blessed with individual gifts that are unique and incomparable, you can share your gift through the world to help others.

  1. Be the inspiration

Right now, you may be seeking inspiration to carry on, however through your healing process, you will see that this painful challenging situation has been created to make you stronger.  Take the time you need to heal and get to know yourself and realise how special you are. If you are hurt, many people around you are feeling the same way relating to another situation in life you, are not alone. Therefore, dig deep within your heart and find the pearls of wisdom that you wish to share with others to help yourself and others heal.  Never feel rushed to complete anything, yes set yourself a goal because through goal setting you will feel a sense of accomplishment.  You know that whatever you set your mind to, you can accomplish.
